Avoid Arguments, Quarrels and Disagreements

We don’t live in a perfect world or perfect  relationships with each other, therefore Arguments, Quarrels and Disagreements happen amongst us. An argument happens when two or more people try to defend or uphold their ideas, values, beliefs or principles. Sometimes, an issue does not warrant a debate but there are people who are confrontational in nature and want to argue and dispute about everything.  The first thing for us to realize is, it takes two to make argue or quarrel.  An argument is never only one person’s fault, something must have happened between the two parties to cause a quarrel. If the other person refuses to participate, there cannot be an argument or a quarrel. There is an exception to this rule, where a person picks a fight or quarrel with someone for no reason at all. Sometimes a person just wants to vent their frustration/anger at someone, because of what’s happened to them during the day. That’s one of the reasons why people intentionally start a fight or argument with someone else without a good reason. Hence, we usually quarrel about something that isn’t very important or relevant to our situation.

St Paul says, “ Have nothing to do with foolish, ignorant controversies; you know that they breed quarrels. And the Lord’s servant must not be quarrelsome but kind to everyone, able to teach, patiently enduring evil,” 2 Timothy 2:23-24  and “Remind them of these things, and charge them before God not to quarrel about words, which does no good, but only ruins the hearers.” 2 Timothy 2:14 also “But avoid foolish controversies and genealogies and arguments and quarrels about the law, because these are unprofitable and useless.” Titus 3:9

Therefore don’t feed Arguments, Quarrels and Disagreements, by engaging the other person, but avoid such quarrels and live at peace with each other.
