Good Friday

The Blood of the Lamb

Many of my Jewish friends would take a young lamb home and look after it until the preparation day, when the Passover lamb would be prepared and scarified. That’s when the 1st mentioned of the words, “The blood of the Lamb,” was first used.

The blood of the Lamb point to the death of the Son of God. The sufferings of Jesus Christ at Easter. Our Lord was not only bruised and beaten, but he was put to death. His heart’s blood was made to flow.  Jesus’ death was the act which highlighted the words “the blood of the Lamb.” We are to view Jesus as the Passover Lamb. It is the death of the Son of God which is the conquering weapon. Had he not poured out his soul unto death, even to the death on the cross and had he not been numbered with the transgressors, and put to a death of shame, we should have had no weapon with which we could overcome Satan. By “the blood of the Lamb” we understand the death of the Son of God. The death of Christ signalled the death of sin and the defeat of Satan.

When John the Baptist first pointed to Jesus, he said, “Look, the Lamb of God!.” Our Lord Jesus has taken away our sin by his death. Just over 2000 years ago Jesus paid the price for all our sins, “Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God—  Children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.”  When Jesus died, a full price was offered by him and accepted by the God, so that before the high court of heaven there was a distinct removal of sin from the whole body of which Christ is the head.

It’s up to each one of us to receive Jesus into our life and believe that he poured his life’s blood for the remission of our sins and to make us children of God.
