We all spend lots of time searching for the right name for our child. Some of us turn to parents and friends, but majority of us to books or internet. It’s good to think about names and there meaning before giving it to our child.
During this Easter it’s good to spend little time thinking about the names of Jesus. He is referred to all around the world by many different names. Here are few of the name Jesus is known by:-
Son of the living God, Only Begotten Son, Only Begotten of the Father, Son of the Highest, The Son of God, Rabbi from God, Teacher, Christ the Son of God , The Mighty God, Saviour, God Manifest in the Flesh, Saviour Jesus Christ, Emmanuel, God with Us, Alpha and the Omega, First and the Last, Eternal Life, Word of Life, Image of God, Son of Mary, Sent of the Father, Servant of the Father, The Carpenter’s Son, Saviour of the World, the Anointed one, Lamb of God, the Bridegroom, Shepherd of the Sheep, The Good Shepherd, The Living Bread, The Truth, Redeemer, The High Priest, The Mediator, The Advocate. There are many other names given to Jesus.
Almost everyone knows Jesus by one of the names. Once Jesus asked his disciples about himself and he received variety of replies.
“Now Herod the tetrarch heard about all that was going on. And he was perplexed, because some were saying that John had been raised from the dead, others that Elijah had appeared, and still others that one of the prophets of long ago had come back to life. But Herod said, “I beheaded John. Who, then, is this I hear such things about?” And he tried to see him…….
Once when Jesus was praying in private and his disciples were with him, he asked them, “Who do the crowds say I am?” They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, that one of the prophets of long ago has come back to life.” “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?” Peter answered, “The Christ of God.” Luke 9:7-9 and Luke 9:18-20
But, who do you believe Jesus is? And what does he mean to you?
