There is an old saying that states ‘the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence’. No matter what we have, we always want more.
It’s our human nature to want more than we have, and the media and advertisements use this greed factor to constantly try to convince us that we want more.
The First reason is that it is part of human nature to want more. There are two kind of human hungers that feed this urge: Greed and Boredom. Greed and boredom causes people to want more because they will never be satisfied with what they have.
The Second reason is that the media and advertising, that try to convince us that we need more than what we have. We constantly hear and read that our lives will be so much easier and more complete if we buy a certain product. Everyone have the latest product, why haven’t you? At least that is the angle that advertisements use on us in order to get us to buy more, and it works most of the time. Most of us are inclined to believe what the media and advertisements are telling us.
Money can’t buy us happiness, but it can hinder us from seeking the truth which cost nothing. I believe that true contentment comes from knowing God and being at peace with him and our fellowman
Bible passage
Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things…. Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. 6 Because of these, the wrath of God is coming. You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived.
