Have you ever felt you are the only one in the world that has been betrayed by someone close or a friend? It’s hard to know how you would feel after you have been betrayed by someone you though who loved you. I am sure you would go through all sorts of emotions after betrayal.
The best known story of betrayal is that of Judas who betrayed Jesus with a kiss for 30 pieces of silver. “… Judas went to the chief priests and the officers of the temple guard and discussed with them how he might betray Jesus. They were delighted and agreed to give him money. He consented, and watched for an opportunity to hand Jesus over to them when no crowd was present. ……” While he [Jesus] was still speaking a crowd came up, and the man who was called Judas, one of the Twelve, was leading them. He approached Jesus to kiss him, but Jesus asked him, “Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?” Luke 22:4-6 and Luke 22:47-48
If that was me, I would have let me friends kill Judas and some of the others who were with him. But that’s not how Jesus reacted, instead he let them arrest him and ultimately kill him by hanging him on the cross. Just before he died he prayed, “…”Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” ….. Luke 23:34
