Ash Wednesday

The First Day of Lent:In the Roman Catholic Church, Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent, the season of preparation for the resurrection of Jesus Christ on Easter Sunday. Ash Wednesday always falls 46 days before Easter. On Ash Wednesday all Roman Catholics are encouraged to attend Mass on this day in order to mark the beginning of the Lenten season.

The Distribution of Ashes: During Mass, the ashes which give Ash Wednesday its name are distributed. The ashes are made by burning the blessed palms that were distributed the previous year on Palm Sunday; many churches ask their parishioners to return any palms that they took home so that they can be burned.

After the priest blesses the ashes and sprinkles them with holy water, the faithful come forward to receive them. The priest dips his right thumb in the ashes and, making the Sign of the Cross on each person’s forehead, says, “Remember, man, that thou art dust, and to dust thou shalt return.

A Day of Repentance: The distribution of ashes reminds us of our own mortality and calls us to repentance. In the early Church, Ash Wednesday was the day on which those who had sinned, and who wished to be readmitted to the Church, would begin their public penance. The ashes that we receive are a reminder of our own sinfulness, and many Catholics leave them on their foreheads all day as a sign of humility.

For the sorrow which God gives is the cause of salvation through a change of heart, in which there is no reason for grief: but the sorrow of the world is a cause of death. 2 Corinthians 7:10

I believe that True Repentance will always lead to Salvation. We cannot get truly be saved in the Lord unless we are first willing to repent and turn from our sinfulness.

Music Charts Update

Romance is in the air as Bollywood star couple Genelia D’Souza and Riteish Deshmukh tie the knot, The Voice Asia would like to congratulate the wonderful newly weds. Love is special and makes one nose dive into a relationship without any regrets….and on that note, let’s nose dive into all the happenings in this weeks top ten charts.

Bhangra - A brand new entry this week, the soulful Punjabi singer Kanth Kaler enters this weeks charts with a romantic Punjabi number titled ‘Tere Bin’. Can this song emulate the success of Master Saleem’s ‘Tere Bin’, well only time will tell. Things are certainly looking up for Kanth Kaler, the album Tere Bin is proving to be a hit, if there was any doubts that Punjabi music is loosing it’s colours this album proves that there are no doubts indeed. There is certainly a bright future for Kanth Kaler or should I say….Kanth Colour.

Bollywood - The Bollywood music industry is now concentrating more on item songs than ever before. Many years ago item songs was a rarity, but now, because of public demand or pleasing the masses item songs are here to stay for a long time to come. Bollywood divas are now being paid the same or more for doing an item song than actually participating in a whole film….What has this got to do with music? I here you say… well, it has everything to do with music, after all no item song can be a success without any music being applied to the song, how can a Bollywood Diva dance without any music. At No.4 this week, the item song ‘Bipasha’ from the film Jodi Breakers.

Fusion - The album of the week is a Bollywood classic titled, Phool Aur Kaante. At No.2 this week it’s the song ‘I Love You’ from the film. The once ever so popular vocals of Udit Narayan and Alsiha Chinoy give a great duet performance. The film received a great response and catapulted lead star Ajay Devgan to fame. A time where Bollywood music was at it’s peak…why not request this melodious sensual song. Simply just request this track from our playlist.

Gospel - As we are in the period of Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday, it is fitting that two new entries in this weeks gospel charts are songs connected with Easter. Wonderful Easter songs, ‘Puttar Khuda Da’ by Raj Masih and ‘Suli Utha Ke’ by Bennet Shezhaad hold their respectable positions in the charts. Let’s get in the Easter spirit with these two meaningful songs.

Shrove Tuesday

Shrove Tuesday, the day before Ash Wednesday the beginning of Lent. it’s the last day before Lent, which begins on Ash Wednesday, 40 days before Easter. Lent is a time of abstinence, penitence, as we contemplate the reasons why Jesus had to sacrifice his life for our sakes.

Traditionally, Lent is a time to go without meat, fat , eggs and dairy products, so Shrove Tuesday was the day to consume all the fat, eggs, and dairy products in the house and have a bit of a party before abstaining and being penitent.

We are not saved through good works, but through faith in Lord Jesus Christ, who died for our sins. Therefore Salvation is free; it’s the gift of God.

Bible Passage

For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself a ransom for all, 1 Timothy 2:5-6

Security

We would all like little more Jobs, Home, CCTV, Computer, Finance, Car, Personal, and National Security, sadly when that Security is missing we feel vulnerable. Therefore we try our best to increase Security to feel safe again.

There is another kind of Security that we would all like to be sure about spiritual; we would all hope that our soul is safe after we leave this world.

Healing of Mind and Spirit

There are different kinds of healing mentioned in the Bible; therefore healing is part of God’s plan for all people. We can experience the healing power of God, in our lives. I believe that God is ready to heal us, but often we hold back and don’t go to him for it. Today I just want to highlight few kinds of healing for you.

Physical Healing We don’t have to have a life-threatening disease to ask God to heal us from our sickness. When we ask God to heal us, sometimes he heals us immediately; but other times it may be a while. In some cases, God will give you the patience to wait for the healing which may come through medicine or surgery.

Psychological Healing We can experience the healing of our hurts through God’s healing power. Each of us has mental wounds, but that does not mean we need to carry them with us forever. God wants to set us free from the memory of these wounds. There’s no reason to let our past keep us captive in the past, but we can live in the freedom of what God has planned for us.

Freedom from Addictions It may take some time and prayer to be delivered from these addictions, but it can be done with God’s help. God has the power to set us free from addictions or habitual patterns of behavior that are destructive for our health.

Pardon from Sins God wants us to live free from the shame or guilt of past mistakes. Sometimes physical sickness is related to our spiritual state. Once our spirit is right with God, it’s easier to deal with the physical sickness.

Get your spirit right so that you can receive your healing.

God said, “I will bring health and healing to it; I will heal my people and will let them enjoy abundant peace and security.” Jeremiah 33:6

Prayer

Heal me, O LORD, and I will be healed; save me and I will be saved, for you are the one I praise. Jeremiah 17:14

Selfless

Selflessness is having little concern for one’s own interest’s, but aims to support others who may be less fortunate then themselves.

Selfless Acts of Kindness, dose happen day after day all over the world. Majority of the times we choose to ignore them as normal. Just think of someone running into a burning building or towards gunfire to save someone’s life. There isn’t enough money in the world to force someone to do that, but that’s what some people do, on our behalf day after day. Just think of all the charity workers who travel into hostile parts of the world to save others, without any concern for their own safety.

Bible passage

“Jesus called them together and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them. Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave—just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Matthew 20:25-28
